About the Museum
Built in 1432 by Sir John Falstaff, Caister Castle had only one of five such licenses granted by Henry VI. It is an impressive moated brick quadrangle fortress on the site of an earlier fortified manor house. With a high curtain wall flanked by square and round towers it is complete with gunloops. At the corners are open back round bastions having arrow loops. The castle and grounds are also home to the largest private collection of motor vehicles in Britain. Caister castle is a moated castle with 100-foot tower built in 1432 on the site of the early fortified manor house where Sir John Fastolff was born. Margaret, wife of Fastolff's heir, John Paston, was the focal point of the famous Paston Letters now in the British Museum. Caister Castle has the largest private collection of motor vehicles in Great Britain, from 1893 to the present time, including; the first real motor car in the world the 1893 Panhard et Levassor, Jim Clark's Grand Prix 'R14', Christine Keeler's Cadillac Eldorado, the 1st Ford Fiesta and the last drophead Morris 1000.
